" IGFA ruling on assist or stinger hooks".

Want to claim that record fish caught on a jig? Then read on!

A savvy member of the IGFA raised this important question and the reply was printed in the October 2006 edition of the IGFA newsletter. It is important reading, especially if you jig regularly knowing that you are in a location that holds potential record fish.

Why? Because your catch will be disqualified if you do not rig your jigs correctly. This may also apply to your local fishing club rules if they follow IGFA regulations (like ours does).

What if I want to use a double hook rig at the top of my jigs? Good Question. Our reading of the IGFA rules suggests that one assist hook must be longer the other assist hook and that the curved shank of the first hook must be clear of the eye on the second hook.

In this case we would recommend you use a 6/0 short Demon assist and a long Demon 9/0 assist as shown below when chasing record fish.

Our thanks to Herv'e Picarda for bringing this ruling to our attention. I am sure our many clients will appreciate the value of this information.
